1. Here’s a photo I took last summer:

(totally lame photo courtesy of my iPhone)
2. And here’s a photo of the same scene that I found on flickr:

(totally kickass photo courtesy of singleframe.)
Of course there’s some degree of skill involved. Okay, lots and lots of skill. But still. An artist needs her tools. So Santa, if you’re reading, the second photo was taken with a Canon EOS 5D. I’m currently using a Canon Powershot and it doesn’t give good bokeh. Oh, and I’ve been good this year. Kind of.
Okay. Done being selfish now.

I have been trying to decide which DSLR to buy for a month now ever since I got the go-ahead from my partner. It’s really stressing me out!! I wish you luck in getting a new camera
Posted 19 Dec 2008 at 3:36 pm ¶If you’re looking for a budget way to break into the DSLR world, here’s what I tell people:
Adorama sells factory refurbished Canon equipment. I buy refurbished all the time, it comes with a warranty and I’ve been hard pressed to tell the difference next to new equipment.
For the budget SLR seeker I would suggest taking a long hard look at the Canon Rebel XT 350D. It’s not the latest greatest, but it is inifinitely more capable than any point & shoot on the market. I’ve printed pictures up to 24″ x 36″ with excellent results taken with a Rebel XT. My wife now uses this camera, and a photographer she’s not, but she loves it.
The best part? It can be found at Adorama refurbished for well under $400, which is not much more than a serious point & shoot.
Maybe that will give Santa just the nudge he needs…

This shot is a good example (from last xmas):

I know people who shoot Nikon and Cannon and I shoot Sony, and pretty much all of them work well. I like my Sony, but I got it for $50 with some reward points off my credit card. The only thing I dislike about it is there’s less lens selection than other cameras. If I’d been buying one full price, I’d have gotten something different with better lens availability.

I have a nice SLR film camera and a proam digital SLR, but the one I use the most is the Canon Power Shot SD750 Digital Elph (that I can carry in my purse). Being able to capture the moment (whenever it happens) has value too.

I have a really great(new)website for you to check out. It is at http://www.thewellspoint.com. It’s a great resource for photography. I took several courses from David H. Wells and now he is providing his expertise on line in video podcasts for free. To see wonderful examples of his work, check out http://www.davidhwells.com.
Hope that it’s helpful to you.

How much do you charge for a text link on your blog and how much for a post with a text link back to a web site?
Thank you.
